Partner & Director of Litigation
Jonathan B. Nelson is an experienced litigator and corporate counsel with comprehensive knowledge and business vision in corporate governance, multi-national operations, risk management, strategic business development, dispute resolution, complex litigation matters, contract law, bankruptcy and creditors' rights. As Director of Litigation, Mr. Nelson oversees the entire Litigation Department comprised of a thriving Commercial Litigation practice group and a full-service Creditors' Rights and Financial Services Litigation practice group.
In the litigation arena, Mr. Nelson handles a diverse array of matters from civil litigation, involving individuals and small businesses to complex federal corporate matters, with a concentration in title insurance defense, commercial litigation and commercial real estate. He oversees all aspects of the firm's commercial litigation cases from intake through trial. For the department's Creditors' Rights and financial Services Litigation practice group, Mr. Nelson advises the attorneys on matters including banking, credit union, real property, bankruptcy and personal property law as well a day-today compliance.
Experience
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Nelson was Assistant General Counsel at the Compass Group USA, Inc. in Rye Brook, New York. Compass Group USA is a subsidiary of Compass Group PLC which is traded publicly on the London Stock Exchange (CPG.L.) which provides food service solutions to business enterprises and governmental entities, generating approximately $20B in annual revenue. Earlier in his career, Mr. Nelson had a general law practice focusing on civil and criminal litigation in state and federal court. He has also held the position of Assistant District Attorney at the Office of the Kings County District Attorney in Brooklyn, New York, where he was quickly promoted to the position of Senior Trial Attorney. Upon receiving commendations for successfully trying numerous felony cases, including homicides, Mr. Nelson was chosen to help form an elite bureau, specializing in the complex prosecution of crimes committed against children.
