Adriana E. Kierszenbaum is Counsel of the Not-for-Profit Department. Ms. Kierszenbaum has over twenty-five years of extensive experience as a litigator and transactional attorney. She now works together with Daniel R. Alcott, Partner and Chair of the Not-for-Profit department at the Firm to offer innovative legal solutions as outside counsel “General Counsel” for not-for-profit and tax-exempt organizations.
Ms. Kierszenbaum is a bilingual (English/Spanish) business lawyer who also has a Commercial Real Estate background with a concentration in environmental, zoning and land use property development. Ms. Kierszenbaum provides legal advice regarding entity formation and dissolution, IRS and state regulatory compliance matters, investigations and tax matters, and real estate transactions. She advises on legal compliance issues related to charity and non profit audits.
Ms. Kierszenbaum background as a municipal land use attorney is useful for real estate development and permitting issues pertaining to non-profits. Specifically, she has held positions as in-house and outside counsel. For example, she served as former in house Senior Deputy Town Attorney for the Town of Yorktown responsible for all contract negotiation and litigation matters for all Town departments. Simultaneously she served as In House Counsel to the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Yorktown. Her former outside counsel experience includes representing the City of Yonkers, Town of Newburg and Village of Sleepy Hollow (formerly “North Tarrytown”) relating to Article 78 Proceedings and labor relation matters.
Past experience in both the government and private sectors includes: Principal Law Clerk in the New York State Supreme Court (Civil Term in New York County and Criminal Term in Kings County), Sr. Deputy Town Attorney for the Town Of Yorktown, Sr. Associate in the Corporate and Real Estate Practices of Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, LLP and Resident Outside Counsel and Corporate Generalist in the Legal Division of FUJIFILM Holdings America Corporation.
