Anna R. Schwartz, a highly respected litigator with over twenty years of experience, has dedicated her career to protecting the interests of health care providers. She litigates complex medical malpractice matters, represents physicians, nurses and therapists in professional disciplinary hearings, and handles medical billing audits and insurance coverage disputes. Many of the medical malpractice cases she handles involve obstetrics, gynecologic oncology, and other high risk specialties. She also advises hospitals and medical practices on risk management, HIPAA compliance, accreditation, and proper utilization of electronic medical records.
Coming from a family of physicians, Ms. Schwartz’s commitment to the defense of medical providers and the medical field is both professional and personal. Her extensive medical knowledge is instrumental in developing litigation strategy, working with experts, preparing witnesses, and defending medical practitioners at depositions and hearings. She neutralizes the emotional and sympathetic aspects of a medical malpractice claim by focusing her preparation and strategy on the medical and scientific facts involved. She has been most successful in gaining early dismissals and reaching favorable outcomes, and facilitating successful verdicts for those cases that proceed to trial.
As public concern about the quality of healthcare grows, the medical profession is under increasing scrutiny. Ms. Schwartz plays an important role in preparing and representing practitioners before the Office of Professional Medical Conduct and the Office of Professional Discipline in proceedings to safeguard their licensure.
She also assists with credentialing for privileges, affiliations with health care facilities, and participation with health management organizations, including handling disputes over reimbursement, charting and coding. Ms. Schwartz received her undergraduate degree from Skidmore College and her law degree from New York Law School.
Ms. Schwartz has been recognized by New York Magazine’s Women Leaders in the Law and has an AV Preeminent peer rating from Martindale-Hubbell, for highest level of professional excellence.
