Ms. Kastner works closely with the Partner & Chair of the Litigation Department, Jonathan B. Nelson, and the team in the New York office, to provide representation to clients on both coasts. Ms. Kastner provides comprehensive litigation and risk management services to the firm’s diverse array of financial services clients, including national, regional and local banks, direct lending institutions, credit unions, investment funds, trustees of mortgage-backed securities and REITs, and mortgage services.

Ms. Kastner has considerable experience achieving successful outcomes for clients in state, federal, and appellate courts, as well as before arbitration panels, in a range of matters, which have included: creditors’ rights in complex and highly contested bankruptcy actions (Chapter 11, as well as Chapter 7 and 13), commercial lending disputes, mortgage and consumer fraud actions, predatory and unfair lending actions, complex escalated foreclosures, and disputes arising from the impairment of collateral.

Ms. Kastner is highly skilled in investigating and resolving title disputes for owners, lenders and title insurance companies involving defects in title, fraudulent conveyance claims, broker or agent fraud and negligence claims, equitable enforcement of mortgages, priority enforcement of liens, the purchase and sale of distressed properties, insurance coverage claims, subrogation claims, adverse possession, easement disputes, and cases of eminent domain or other municipal action that impairs title.

Ms. Kastner also represents real estate developers, investors and owners in disputes with sellers, owners’ associations, management boards, adjoining landowners and contractors. Additionally, Ms. Kastner handles general litigation matters for individual and corporate clients in the areas of contract law, business torts, antitrust and unfair competition, intellectual property, constitutional civil rights and employment law.

Prior to joining Dorf Nelson & Zauderer LLP, Ms. Kastner was a Litigation Associate with Proskauer Rose LLP in New York, NY, where she represented Fortune 500 clients in complex commercial litigation matters involving contract claims, business torts, real estate disputes, antitrust claims, and enforceability of secured claims in bankruptcy.

Ms. Kastner has served as General Counsel for the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) in New York, NY, an international not-for-profit organization, where she managed all in-house litigation and advised on corporate compliance issues. Ms. Kastner also served as a law clerk for a New York State Supreme Court judge and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.
