Lawyer Overview
Jessica Kastner is a Partner in the Firm’s Commercial Litigation Department and practices in both New York and California. She provides comprehensive litigation representation, counseling, and risk management services to a broad range of individual and corporate clients.
With nearly two decades of litigation experience, Ms. Kastner is a highly skilled trial and appellate attorney with substantial experience litigating matters in state and federal courts in both New York and California. Her practice includes all phases of litigation, alternative dispute resolution, and appellate advocacy, with a keen focus on developing effective and efficient litigation strategy to deliver successful outcomes for clients.
Ms. Kastner handles a wide array of commercial litigation matters, including business torts, contract disputes, intellectual property, employment, corporate disputes, and real estate litigation. She is especially experienced in navigating complex real estate and title-related litigation. Her real estate litigation practice includes title insurance defense, title insurance coverage disputes, actions to quiet title, mortgage validity and enforcement disputes, lien priority litigation, complex commercial foreclosures, complex mortgage fraud and fraudulent conveyance matters, adverse possession claims, easement disputes, boundary line disputes, tree destruction claims, and claims related to ancient, equitable and reversionary interests in real property.
Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Kastner served as General Counsel for the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), an international not-for-profit organization, where she managed in-house litigation, supervised outside counsel, and advised executives on corporate governance and compliance matters. Earlier in her career, she was a Commercial Litigation Associate at Proskauer Rose LLP in New York, representing Fortune 100 companies in complex commercial litigation matters.
In addition to her commercial litigation practice, Ms. Kastner represents parents, relatives, and caregivers in juvenile dependency matters involving investigations and proceedings initiated by county social services agencies alleging child abuse or neglect. She also advises former foster youth and parents regarding potential civil rights claims against county agencies.
Ms. Kastner previously served as court-appointed counsel with Los Angeles Dependency Lawyers, representing parents in proceedings brought by the Department of Children and Family Services. She also worked with Advokids, where she provided pro bono dependency representation, participated in child welfare policy advocacy, and assisted with impact litigation.
Ms. Kastner also serves as a volunteer board member for several child welfare nonprofit organizations in Southern California.
