Lawyer Overview

Richard Klein is a Partner and Co-Chair of the firm’s Commercial Real Estate & Land Use Department.

Mr. Klein became a real estate attorney after having worked for several years in his family’s real estate business where he did real estate management and oversaw leasing and sales of both commercial and residential properties.

Mr. Klein’s first job after graduating from the evening division of Fordham University School of Law was working in the Real Estate Litigation Division of the New York City Law Department. In this role, he worked closely with several City agencies on various real estate litigation matters, including the New York City Housing Preservation and Development Agency, the Human Resources Administration and the Economic Development Corporation. Due to his exceptional performance in the Law Department, Mr. Klein was honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award as an Assistant Corporation Counsel by the Committee of Municipal Affairs of the New York City Bar Association.

After leaving the Law Department, Mr. Klein successfully maintained a solo real estate law practice for sixteen years. His practice included residential and commercial transactions, commercial leasing, bank representation, general governance of cooperative and condominium buildings, and real estate litigation. Always an entrepreneur when an opportunity presents itself, Mr. Klein bought a restaurant business in Brooklyn that he owned for four years.

In November 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Klein started the firm Klein Greco & Associates LLP, which focused solely on real estate matters. The firm handled matters in both New York City and Westchester County. A significant part of its practice, which Mr. Klein maintains at DNZ, was serving as general counsel to cooperative and condominium boards, handling board meetings, amendments, contracts, and more. He also frequently worked with commercial real estate developers in New York City and Westchester County in both the acquisition and sale of commercial properties.

Mr. Klein is passionate about building relationships with his clients and helping them navigate the New York real estate scene. With both litigation and transactional experience, he assists his clients through problems with the aim of solving them expeditiously and always to his clients’ satisfaction. Because of his real estate management experience, Mr. Klein is also able to provide legal counsel and advice with a practical business approach.
